Problems with Combo Drives - CD-RW/DVD

The information below is generated after research toward resolving errors that are prompted when attempting to store data files onto the onboard combination drive in a windows Xp computer. These research results are related to windows xp media Center Edition.

Permissions can be set on hardware devices for each user of the computer or for people who have access to network resources.  These permissions vary from read-only permissions to full control. Information concerning rights and permissions will be posted later on in this blog.

Symptoms

While attempting to store files onto a CD you encounter the following error

 D:/ is not accessible - Incorrect function

or

While attempting to record data onto the onboard cd/dvd unit of your computer, if ever you encounter an error message such as the following:

Error Copying File or Folder

Cannot Copy (filename): Files on this CD-ROM drive are read -only. You cannot copy or move files over to this CD-ROM drive.

Try the following solution

By right clicking my computer and then clicking manage -

1.  Goto Device Manager in the leftt navigator window.

2.  Find the drive that prompted you the error in the tree and click the plus sign to insure that
     what you are looking for is not a sub folder for that drive.

3.  Right Click the drive that has the problem and in the drop down menu. click delete.

4.  Once you have deleted the drive, right click the tree and in the drop down menu
     click "scan for hardware changes."
5.  windows should detech the device and automatically install the software driver for the device.

6.  Check to see if this resolve the problem with your combo drive.

Other Possible Solutions

1.  Roxio Easy CD Creator version 4.x and earlier versions are not supported in windows xp.

2. Uninstall Roxio Easy CD Creator if it is installed on your computer.
